What Yamb adds
compared to Yahtzee, Kniffel, Yatzy, Yam's and Generala
- Up to nine columns
- Instead of a single column, up to nine of them on the same sheet. You choose how many you play.
- Which nine
- Down, Free, Up, Down and up, From the middle, Called, Dictated, Manual and Maximums.
- Called
- Right after the first roll you say which row you will fill in, and that decision is final. Two rolls are left to improve it.
- Dictated
- Your opponent's call opens it. When the opponent fills in their called row, you must fill in that same row in this column.
- Manual
- A column you may only fill in from a roll where all five dice were thrown at once, none of them held.
- Maximums
- A column that accepts an entry only if the result is the highest possible for that row, for example all five sixes in the sixes row.
- Maximum and Minimum
- Two rows in the middle of the sheet: the highest and the lowest sum of five dice, and the difference between them is multiplied by the number of ones.
- Lower section
- Below them come the combinations: Straight, Three of a kind, Full house, Four of a kind and Yamb. A straight is worth more the fewer rolls it takes.

Do you know Yahtzee, Kniffel, Yatzy or Generala?
Then you already know how to play Yamb. Yamb belongs to the same worldwide family of five dice and three rolls games as Yahtzee, German Kniffel, Scandinavian Yatzy, French Yam's and Latin American Generala. The combinations are the same, and what is new is that several columns are played at once, with the Maximum and Minimum rows and with calling your move. The basics are familiar, and there is plenty of depth.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
It is. You play for free, with no ads and no required payment. You can earn tokens by playing, and you can also buy them if you are in a hurry or want to support the development.
What are tokens? Can you win with money?
You cannot. Tokens give no advantage in a game: they change neither the dice, nor the rules, nor the score. They unlock columns and game types, the look of the dice and the board, clubs and the like. Paying does not get you a better hand.
Do I have to install anything?
You do not. In the browser you play right away, on a computer and on a phone. There is a Windows app if you want it, but it is not required.
Is this Yahtzee?
It is not, but it is from the same family. Yahtzee, Kniffel, Yatzy, Yam's and Generala all share five dice and three rolls. Yamb adds several columns at once, the Maximum and Minimum rows, and calling your move. If you know any of them, you will learn Yamb in your first game.
Windows warns me when downloading. Why?
Because the app is new and not yet digitally signed, which is common for new independent programs. In the browser choose Keep, and on the SmartScreen screen click More info and then Run anyway. If that feels uncomfortable, play in the browser, where nothing is installed.
